Sophie Vanhomwegen

Hakuba, formerly known as TONER, is a techno-driven project that merges the productions of Tom Goris with the distinctive vocals of Sophie Vanhomwegen. Their collaborative approach is rooted in live music-making, offering a dynamic and immersive experience that’s primed for the dancefloor. Anchored by techno’s signature beats and basslines, Sophie’s vocal work is central to their sound, evolving from melodic expressions to more experimental and abstract dimensions. Her voice functions beyond traditional singing, transforming into percussive textures and synthesized elements, adding a creative edge to their electronic soundscape. Beyond her vocal contributions, Sophie also takes charge of Hakuba’s visual identity. She designs the project’s branding and imagery, ensuring their visual aesthetic mirrors the dark, immersive nature of their soundscapes.

Their debut performance took place at Espace Vanhomwegen in December 2022, introducing a live setup built entirely on improvisation. Marking their official transition to Hakuba, they returned for a second show one year later. Since then, the duo has been focusing on new productions, with a series of releases scheduled for September 2026.
